Kalshi vs Polymarket (2026): Which One Should You Use?

Polymarket wins on scout score, payout, kyc, bonus, games, kyc, online since. Kalshi answers back on reputation, coins accepted. If the rows Polymarket wins are the ones you care about, that is your site.

Kalshi and Polymarket sell the same product: Yes and No contracts that pay $1 if you are right and nothing if you are wrong, traded against other people instead of a house. How they got there could hardly be more different. Kalshi went to the regulator first. The CFTC designated KalshiEX as a contract market in November 2020, and every account starts with a government ID check. Polymarket's international site runs on Polygon, settles in USDC, asks for no ID at sign-up and says plainly that it is not regulated by the CFTC. US residents are sent to a separate Polymarket US app with full KYC. I read both help centres, both fee formulas, both resolution rules and both regulatory records, and pulled live quotes from their public APIs. Here is who wins on payouts, KYC, bonuses, markets and reputation, round by round.

Who wins for payouts

Polymarket is non-custodial: your USDC sits in a wallet you control, and Polymarket charges nothing to deposit or withdraw. Winning shares redeem for $1 about two hours after an undisputed result. A disputed market takes four to six days. Kalshi says crypto withdrawals are free and typically arrive within 30 minutes, and debit-card withdrawals within a few hours. The catches: crypto withdrawals need a prior crypto deposit, card deposits can cost 2 percent, and card or bank deposits can be held up to two days. Its outcomes are decided one to twelve-plus hours after close. I haven't timed a payout on either yet. Winner: Polymarket.

Who wins for KYC

On polymarket.com you sign up with an email code, Google or a crypto wallet, and the flow has no identity step. Kalshi is the opposite. You photograph a driver's licence or passport live in the app, sometimes with a selfie, before the account is activated for deposits. Kalshi may also ask for proof of address, employment details or source of funds. One caveat: Polymarket US also demands full KYC, Social Security number included. Winner: Polymarket.

Who wins for bonuses

Neither has a welcome bonus, so this is a contest of side perks. Polymarket pays a variable 3.25 percent annualised holding reward on eligible positions, rebates makers and shares net fees with referrers. Kalshi pays a variable 3.5 percent interest on cash and open positions, but only for US accounts with $250 or more. Its referral amounts appear only inside the app. Higher rate on one side, wider eligibility on the other. Winner: a tie.

Who wins for markets

Both cover sports, politics, economics, crypto, culture and weather, and both offer combos and perpetual futures. Kalshi's perps are open only to approved US users. Fees decide this round. Polymarket charges takers only, at rates that vary by category: 100 shares at 50 cents cost $1.25 on sports and $1.00 on politics, and geopolitics is free. Makers never pay. Kalshi charges takers $1.75 on the same trade, and some markets also charge makers a quarter of that. On the October Fed decision, Polymarket's spreads were 0.1 to 1 cent when I checked. Kalshi's main strike was 17 to 19 cents, a 2-cent spread. Winner: Polymarket.

Who wins for reputation

Kalshi has been a CFTC-designated exchange since 2020 and beat the CFTC in court over election contracts in 2024. Its fight now is with the states. The Third Circuit sided with Kalshi against New Jersey, which has gone to the Supreme Court. The Ninth Circuit let Nevada enforce its gaming laws against Kalshi's sports contracts. Polymarket's international site was fined $1.4 million by the CFTC in 2022 under its earlier operator. France ordered it blocked in July 2026, and Belgium blacklisted it. Trustpilot gives Kalshi 2.7 from 378 reviews and Polymarket 1.3 from 643, with no company replies. Winner: Kalshi.

The verdict

Polymarket wins three rounds out of five: cheaper sports and politics fees, no ID on polymarket.com and non-custodial payouts. Those wins only count if you can use it, and Polymarket restricts trading in 39 countries, including the US, UK, France, Germany and Italy. Kalshi is the pick if you want a regulated exchange and don't mind handing over your passport. In the US, the fair comparison is Kalshi against Polymarket US, and both ask for full KYC.
